Match Official Abuse
At Hove Rugby Club, our 'One Club' ethos is built on mutual respect. We wish to remind all players, coaches, and spectators that we maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of abuse. Match officials are essential to our sport; without them, there is no game. Please ensure your conduct reflects the values of our club at all times:
Stay Off the Pitch: Entering the field of play, no matter what the intention, is strictly forbidden without the referee’s permission.
Serious Consequences: Under RFU Rule 5.12, punishments for entering the field or confronting officials are severe. They include long bans for individuals, 1st XV points deductions, and financial penalties for the club.
Respect the Officials: Match Official Abuse (MOA) is a national issue discouraging people from officiating. In alignment with Sussex RFU, we have zero tolerance for MOA.
The 30-Minute Rule: Per RFU Regulation 12.5, no person shall approach the Match Officials at half-time or for 30 minutes after the match to discuss any issue. The Referee’s changing room is also strictly off-limits.
