Hove Hawks 27 - Battersea Ironsides 14 (Quarter Final QUINS Cup)

With Hawks last outing in the league stages back at the beginning of February it would be fair they would be a bit rusty with little game time recently but straight from the start Hawks dominated territory and possession. Any rustiness was more down to patience, discipline and execution but when it came to effort and commitment we couldn’t have asked for more. Wave after wave of Hawks attack broke down letting ironsides off the hook and giving them an easy exit to relieve the pressure

Credit to Ironsides who were defending for their lives with a QUINS Cup Semi Final on the line.

Eventually the pressure told with Senan crossing over 5-0 and HT

Ironsides were definitely more pleased to hear the HT whistle, only 5-0 down having been under the pump all first half.

Hawks regrouped at HT we new we needed to start converting the pressure in to points as Battersea had dangerous players all over the park

The 2nd half started in similar fashion to the first and following a great forward set and a barnstorming drive from Sid who crossed over Eddie getting the extras 12-0.

Hawks were in the mood to put this quarter final to bed and this time it was the backs Senan with a clever finish to get his 2nd of the match 17-0.

It was all Hawks but a lucky bounce following a punt up field saw Ironsides break away 17-7 game on. This was about character now

Back came Hawks driving down the middle and quick thinking from Reggie with a lovey pick and go to touch down under the posts Eddie converting 24-7.

Battersea were now throwing caution to the wind and their centre cut a lovely line to narrow the margin to 24-14

But despite Battersea having their tails up that effort, commitment and physicality from the Hawks weren’t letting them back in this tie, a penalty in the middle for Hawks through Eddie we took the 3 points and put the game out of reach 27-14 Full Time

Despite their lack of game time the Hawks were amazing today playing a team with one of the best squads in the competition
