The Hawks got their QUINS cup campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought and deserved win against a very strong Esher side.
Despite Hove bossing the early exchanges of the game they found themselves behind midway through the 1st half, Esher scoring with their first real entry into Hoves 22. 0-7
But as we have seen of late Hawks are getting good at staying in the fight and coming back strong and before half time a powerful forward set saw Thomas muscle over to level the match (conversion by Eddie) 7-7 then a few minutes later a great team try saw Reggie get on the end of a lovely kick through to put Hawks 12-7 ahead. Half time
With Hawks ahead by a score at HT the team knew the next score was critical and shortly after the restart it was Hove again that crossed over a lovely finish by Dan again converted by Eddie 19-7
Like all good sides back came Esher knocking on the door, wave after wave until the pressure told and it was game on 19-14 a one score game with 20 minutes on the clock.
It was a game of attrition both teams standing firm, into the final minutes and Hove secured a penalty, every Hove coach at the same time shouted POINTS!!!!!!
Eddie knocked it over to make it 22-14 a 2 score game and the boys managed the final minutes to win a really hard fought match
Next week it’s up to Sutton who lost out today to London Irish 31-22
Other results Farnham beat Ironsides 24-15
London Irish beat Sutton 31-22
From what I’ve heard Old Reigations v Wimbledon postponed
