Hove U14 Girls build on strong start with composed away win

Hove U14 Girls recorded an impressive 27–0 friendly win away at Westcombe Park on Sunday, overcoming an initially physical and tactically challenging opponent to continue their strong run of form.

The first half was tense and closely fought, with Hove needing to dig deep in defence to contain an aggressive Westcombe Park pack. Eventually, Hove edged ahead through a trademark barging try from Lottie, with Effie adding a superb conversion from just inside the touchline. Effie’s confident performance reflects her growing stature as a truly multi-dimensional player.

A special mention goes to Elsie, recently named Player of the Month, who continued to impress in the front row — all the more remarkable given she only began training eight weeks ago. Coach-led experimentation with players in new positions added a valuable learning dimension to the match. Lexi was composed and lively in the unfamiliar scrum-half role, while Aoife, captaining the side for the day, guided proceedings with calm authority — surprising no one but perhaps herself.

In the second half, Hove’s experienced bench made an impact, solidifying the scrum and adding momentum as the team gained the upper hand physically. The pressure soon told, with further tries from regular scorers Daisy and Lily, and two lightning finishes from Lucia, who was also voted Opposition’s Player of the Match for her dynamic attacking play.

It was a rewarding trip to London, with Hove not only earning a convincing win but also forming new and hopefully lasting connections with a talented Westcombe Park side who had yet to taste defeat. The seaside visitors impressed by soaking up pressure, adapting quickly, and striking incisively through both forwards and back
