Hove U14 Girls Start Season with Convincing Win Over Horsham Rivals

Sunday 19 October 20, 2025

Horsham 7 Hove 33

Hove U14 girls kicked off their season in impressive fashion, continuing their strong form from last year with a hard-fought but convincing 33-7 win over longtime rivals Horsham on Sunday. Playing on a tough all-weather surface that tested both lungs. knees and legs, Hove quickly found their rhythm, opening the scoring with an early try from winger Charlotte, who once again lived up to her growing reputation as a reliable finisher out wide.

Horsham responded with determined pressure, but further tries followed from Ari, rumbustious Lily, and Effie, each taking their chances well. The standout moment came from Daisy, who turned the tide just as Horsham looked likely to claw their way back in. Reading the play perfectly, she intercepted a pass deep in her own half and sprinted the length of the pitch to score a spectacular solo try that sealed momentum firmly in Hove’s favour.

In the pack, new combinations began to gel more confidently in the second half marshalled by some old hands. Both front and back rows stood up to the physicality of a larger Horsham scrum and even managed to drive them off their own ball in the final stages—a statement of intent for the season ahead.

Special mention goes to fullback Molly, whose kicking game was exceptional, highlighting the improvements in technical skills across the girls' game. And to Elsie who played her first game of rugby, completing a half at prop and impressing with her strength. With year 8 players stepping up to key positions and adapting impressively to a full-sized pitch, this was a promising all-round performance from a developing and exciting Hove squad.
