After a narrow loss in their first Sussex League game to Horsham, round 2 saw Hove host Crowborough for their first home game for the season.

Hove got off to a fast start, with Thea crossing the line early on the right wing, and Hove kept up the fast pace, with some devastating forward carries either creating some tries themselves or generating quick ball to unleash the backline. From there, a dominant first half performance saw Hove execute a number of chances to take them to a commanding lead.
The coaching team were delighted to see work from the training pitch transferring over to the game and Hove looked sharp in attack, with the offload game causing real damage.
Around half-time, with a couple of injuries to key Crowborough players, Hove lent a couple of players to Crowborough and rotated through their subs, including Ruby on her debut. With a few players switched in position, Hove had to respond to the new challenge presented. Crowborough, to their credit, rallied in the second half and Lucy and Iris H at 10 and 15 for them helped them to find their rhythm. This led to a back and forth game where both teams had periods on top, leading to a second half that finished 3 tries a piece.
For Hove, an impressive attacking display created lots of problems for the Crowborough defence, but as a whole team performance. The 11 tries Hove scored over the course of the game came from 9 different players which is an excellent rate of return. The set piece held up well despite a few changes in the front 5.
Next up, Hove host Old Reigatian in the National Cup.
