Sunday 18th September saw Hove minis attend their first festival of the season at Worthing RFC. A great tournament hosted by minis chair Kieron and his team of coaches. The festival was attended by 20 different clubs who fielded around 90 teams across U7-U11.
This was the first festival for our U7’s (as they’ve gone into tag rugby), as well as the first contact tournament for U9’s. Both doing very well. Typical a wet and muddy day, the rain held off for some great rugby played across all age groups. Well done to all those that attended and next stop is Chichester on the 5th October.
U9's report:
The U9s were at Worthing for their first contact festival on Sunday, against teams from Worthing, Locks Heath, Midhurst, Horsham, Pulborough & Haywards Heath. We put out 3 strong teams that more than held their own and it was great to see all the players getting to grips with contact. At this level the boys and girls play in mixed teams and, on the heels of the Red Roses World Cup victory, it was fitting to see Edie leading the way in her team. Across all teams, our defensive drills came to the fore with some excellent "line on me" communication and everybody getting involved in determined tackling.
Our teams also had to get used to being tackled in a live game for the first time and while the knocks & bruises came as a shock, they all kept going and continued to enjoy the games, running in some great tries and really developing their passing and support game. Of course enjoyment and learning how to play was the focus and of course we don't keep scores at this level, but if anyone was counting, I suspect they would find Hove RFC U9s won across all the games we played. Hats off to Worthing for a great festival & spirit of rugby.
U8's Report
Last weekend we took the U8's to their first festival of the season. To say the kids were buzzing in the days before is an understatement! We entered four teams (could have taken more) with a mix of regular players and some of our new recruits.
Throughout the festival, we played some great rugby with lots of running, try scoring, and tags being taken. As a whole, the squad performed amazingly - feedback from players, parents and other coaches was also really positive. Can't wait for another festival next weekend!
