Hove U15s Kicking off the Season in style

After a strong summer of fitness and skills training, Hove U15s kicked off the season with their first match in the Surrey Cup - a competition that we are playing in for the first time this season. This is in addition to both our squads continuing in the Sussex leagues, offering the team fresh competition and challenges.

Sunday 21st saw us visit Reeds Weybridge - an impressive club in South West London. The squad was a mix of more regular ‘Blues’ players and those from our Reds who shone last season and in training.

A slow start (not untypical of us 😁) saw us fall behind with a try almost from kick off. However, this only served as a much needed wake up call, and Hove soon got rolling. After a pause to look after a Reeds player down injured, we started building the scoreboard.

Led through the middle by our forwards we earned the right to play utilising our new game structure, and early tries from Matanios Assaf got us started. George Hampson as ever completed the conversions to maximise the points tally.

As confidence grew so did our willingness to open up in the backs, and we stretched the Reeds defence, a trend that continued into the 2nd half as we utilised our set plays and varied our attacking lines. Tries in the backline from George, Kriztian Stopwar, Arthur Rogers and Jude Shuff demonstrating our use of the width of the pitch.

The game eventually finished 10-61 to Hove, with 9 tries and 8 conversions. Our thanks to Reeds Weybridge for being great hosts.

This weekend for the U15s sees our Blues travel to Richmond for the 2nd fixture in the Surrey Cup for what is sure to be a very competitive match, and our Reds start their season at home season in a friendly with a visit from Camberley.
