A surprisingly bright Sunday morning at Hove saw the U14 Girls field their large and lively squad in two league fixtures – a testament to the depth and enthusiasm within this talented group. The result? Two impressive victories, showcasing both the developing and more experienced ends of the team working in harmony.
Match 1: Hove vs Crowborough/East Grinstead (48–17)
At Crowborough’s request, this fixture was redesignated as a development match, providing valuable full-game experience for several players still finding their stride in competitive rugby.
The first half was a tightly fought contest, with Hove trailing narrowly at the break. However, after a few tactical tweaks – and perhaps the benefit of playing downhill – the team found another gear. Their second-half performance was a showcase in teamwork: relentless running, sharp offloads, and confident use of space saw Hove take control and pull away.
On the sidelines, teammates cheered loudly and kept water bottles moving – a fine example of squad spirit and togetherness.
Match 2: Hove vs Pulborough (55–0)
After a quick turnaround, the squad regrouped, with some of the more experienced players joining for Hove’s first appearance of the season on the show pitch.
From the outset, Hove’s pace and power proved difficult to contain, with strong carries and well-timed support runs leading to a flurry of early tries. Despite the one-sided scoreline, Pulborough’s players showed real heart and resilience throughout, earning the admiration of both sets of supporters.
In the spirit of development, both sides agreed to mix things up in the second half, creating a more balanced and entertaining contest. Pulborough’s good humour and sportsmanship continued off the pitch too – they undoubtedly took home the prize for “Best Dressed Opposition” at the post-match meal!
