It is with great sadness that Hove Rugby Club announces the passing of club member Robbie Greenfield.

Robbie was a much-loved member of the club who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. After hanging up his boots, Robbie remained a familiar and welcome face at the club for many years.

A real character, Robbie was a slender 19-stone prop at his peak fighting weight, infamous in his time with Hove Saracens and OB’s, and known for only ever having a couple of pints. A line never spoken by anyone who had the privilege to share a bar with him.

Robbie captained the 2nd XV for a season or so and could truly be described as a utility player, turning out not only at prop but also at hooker and even scrum-half when required. On the field, he was equally well known for asking female spectators to look after his drinking money, and occasionally his front teeth, while he got on with the game.
Robbie’s funeral will take place at 3.00pm on Monday 22nd December at The Downs Crematorium, Brighton BN2 4DZ, followed by a celebration of his life from 4.00pm at The Deep-Sea Anglers Club, Western Esplanade, Brighton, BN41 1WE.
Our thoughts are with Robbie’s family and friends at this difficult time.
