Women take a narrow loss to Medway

The women's 1st XV marched out with 22 and two NPR's on home ground to face middle of the league team, Medway. The whistle blew, kicking off the game, as Medway slowly rumbled towards Hove.. playing the first 15 minutes in the majority of Hove territory, as Hove were shy on the defence, allowing Medway to gather up trundling speed. Sissy with their famous boot, taking the women out of danger. We battled against the strong and aggressive runs of Medway, keeping them at bay for the majority of the game.

With some fantastic take downs by No.2 Izzy (c) , No.1 Voicey, No.8 Ella and special mention to No.18 replacement Tessa with her hip shattering tackles. The Hove defence picked up its blitz and made Medway work for their territory, many times forcing them to kick out of trouble to our No.15 Lauren, who gathered up and flew it straight back towards the Medway half. No. 12 Abi, No.13 Mikaila and No.10 Sissy, all putting in a fantastic shift, covering the attempted skip throughs of the Medway backs.

Medway putting in a relatively early try is answered by Hove, giving a score of 5-7. Hove struggling with the games broken momentum, a fluttering of yellow cards were issued, but still the Hove defence didn't break. Medway take this advantage to the bank and score, answered again by Hove, bringing the scoreline up to 10-15. With 15 minutes to go, Hove are chomping at the bit, but as more yellow cards sneak out of the refs pocket, we are left with no time to bring the score home. With the wind... against us, Hove women stuck together and battled adversity and disparity, testified to by Medway themselves. With this narrow loss now behind us, Hove are set to take on Portsmouth next week. Heads up team, we got this together.
