Final Score (Tries): Hove 2 - Westcombe Park 7
On Sunday, the Hove RFC U13s Blues traveled to Orpington to face Westcombe Park A in a friendly fixture. This was the first time the two sides had ever met, marking the start of a promising new connection for both teams as they seek tougher opposition.

Despite being hampered by a mini injury crisis, Hove fielded a determined 13-man squad, with injury cover kindly provided by players from the Hove Reds. The main objective for the Blues was to continue bedding in the core playing system against unfamiliar opposition.
The match proved to be an intensely physical contest. Westcombe Park demonstrated why they were sought-after opponents, fielding a well-drilled side with several powerful ball carriers that made life difficult for Hove.
The home side secured a fast start, going two tries ahead early on. However, the Blues responded with great heart, ensuring the rest of the first half was relatively even. Hove's pressure resulted in two brilliant scores from Isaac D and Enzo, sending the team into the break 4-2 down.
The second half was an undeniable struggle as the game's physicality took its toll. Injuries mounted for Hove, necessitating numerous personnel changes which disrupted the team's cohesion. Westcombe Park continued to play powerfully and pulled away to secure a 7-2 victory. Despite the result, the fixture was played in an excellent spirit, showcasing Sportsmanship and Respect from both sides.
This week's Player of the Match award goes to Fin for an outstanding captain’s performance. Fin showed immense determination, carrying the ball tirelessly, repeatedly getting over the gainline, and putting in numerous crucial tackles to lift the team throughout the tough periods.
A special welcome also goes to Ollie, who made his debut for the Blues, marking a positive step for the squad.
After a well-earned break from travel, the squad will be back at the Hove Rec next Sunday for a dedicated training session, before facing East Grinstead in a match the following weekend.
Finally, a massive thank you to all the parents and coaches who made the long journey up to Orpington early on Sunday morning to support the team.
