U14 Boys Hurricanes & Hornets weekend report

Hurricanes

Hurricanes v Chichester 40-17

A tough, scrappy game in wet conditions with a scoreline that didn’t reflect how close it really was - Jack's conversion made a difference. The boys had to dig deep throughout, showing real determination and teamwork.

We started under pressure but hit back with a series of well-taken tries. Defence was solid when it mattered most, and strong performances from across the squad helped keep control in the key moments.

Precious earned Player of the Match for powerful runs and big tackles, while Isaac, Jack, Ruban and Alex H all made a huge impact in both attack and defence. Jimmy tackled his heart out. Every player contributed, showing heart, grit and great team spirit right to the final whistle.

A scuffle broke out in the game. It is very difficult for 13 year old boys to play such a physical contact sport and always manage to keep their cool. I was really proud of the reaction to this. The lads channelled their emotions and let their rugby do the talking. At the end, everyone shook hands as always and left it on the pitch 👏 Respect!

Hornets

Really proud of the Hornets today.

Pullborough had a big and strong squad (only 1 team entered in League as well), they were too good for us on the day.

Hove started off the match on fire! Dominated the early possession, and went to an early lead 7-0. We were playing with excellent structure, Pods were working well, we used space well and our tackling was fantastic!

I saying this, Pullborough then came back at us to be leading 7-17 at halftime.

Pullborough then ran in a few more tries off the back of unfortunate turnovers in the 2nd half. We lost several players to injury through the match, so finished the game with minimal subs.

I’m super proud of the effort the boys showed today. It was a tough match for the hornets, but the Hove spirit shone through. When the going got tough, we stood up!

We’ve got some newer players to rugby this year, I was impressed with what I saw today coming up against strong opposition who have been played rugby for many years.

Overall, I don’t feel the score line accurately reflected the game today. They were a physical team, but we stood up to the challenge and we can’t be more proud of how our lads tried their hearts out.

Back to training pitch next week, appreciate all players efforts today, plus parent/ families support in the rain. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
